How does ESPN footy tipping work? ›

Footy tipping, or AFL tipping, is a competition in which you try to guess the winners of AFL matches. Before a match starts, all participants make their guesses. Those who pick correctly are rewarded with points. Tipping competitions run as long as the AFL season.

ALL CORRECT BONUS: Get all tips correct in a round and you'll receive 2 bonus points to your regular tipping score. If you forget to tip you will receive the LOWEST COMPETITION SCORE FOR THE ROUND. Tips cannot and will not be accepted after the round has started. No exceptions.

The official afl app will show live scores throughout the game on your tipping screen (next to each club). This one just tells you who you have tipped, percentage and what quarter the game is up to. If you want live scores you have to google them outside of the app.

In a Joker round, your score is doubled. We have randomly selected Rounds 1, 10 & 17 for this season! What if you correctly tip each team in a round e.g. (9 / 9)?

If you forget to enter a tip for a particular match you will automatically be allocated the Away Teams by default (“Auto Tip”) up to a maximum of 5 correct tips. If you forget to tip for a margin game, you will be allocated a margin based on the average predictions made for that Margin Game.

If tippers do not enter tips for a game, round or join after the season has commenced they will be allocated the default score (see below). There are no default tips given during finals rounds for any sports.

Tippers that do not enter tips for an entire round will be allocated the default score. The default score will be the away teams where this score is a maximum of five (5) points.

Does tipping count as gambling? Tipping no, but money becomes involved yes. School classes aren't meant to run footy tipping competitions where children pay to be involved and the prize involves money because it is a form of gambeling.

Knockout Comp

The aim is to select 1 team who you think will definitely win each week. Correctly tip one winning team and you stay alive, incorrectly tip and you get knocked out. Last tipster standing will get a cash prize (to be confirmed, however last year the knockout winner received $250).

An Eligible Entrant may make or change a Tip for a given Match in a Round at any time prior to the scheduled starting time of that Match. Eligible Entrants will be allocated points based on their Tips (“Score”). One (1) point will be allocated for each correct winning team selection.

1 point is awarded for tipping the winner of the match. A bonus 5 points are awarded for tipping a perfect round. For NRL tipping - If the match is a draw at full time, 1 point is awarded for selecting the winner of the golden point play off. If it is still a draw after golden point no points are awarded for the game.
