Our White Chocolate Chex Mix Monster Munch is the perfect Halloween party food!
Our mom is the Halloween queen! Growing up, the Halloween decor came out on October 1st.
Spooky music played all month long, good food was always served, costumes were planned weeks in advance (she made many of them by hand), and parties happened all month long.
My personal favorite part about my mom’s Halloween Traditions were the food and treats. This white chocolate party mix recipe will be a hit at your next Halloween party or movie night.

This festive snack mix is so easy to make, it only requires a few ingredients and a few minutes.
This is the perfect snack for when you are in a rush, need a last-minute treat, or need to bring something to a dinner party.
This is best stored at room temperature, and you’ll probably want to eat it the day your make it or maybe the next day. This monster munch recipe is best fresh! Since there’s a cereal mixture, you don’t want it to go stale for your Halloween parties.
This is a sweet and salty treat you truly can’t go wrong with. You can even customize it to fit any holiday season! It can be made in a big batch too, which means it’s a great snack mix to share with a ton of people. Gather your easy ingredients into a big bowl, and this perfect combination will come together in no time!
It’s also a great Halloween mix to make with your entire family!
Ingredient List for White Chocolate Chex Mix:
- Pretzels (the sea salt balances out the sweetness nicely – you can use mini pretzels too)Honey Nut Cheerios
- Corn Chex (Rice Chex or Honey Nut Chex will work too)
- Peanuts
- M & M’s (candy corn flavor if you can find them, or any Halloween M & M’s candy)
- Candy corn (you could also do candy pumpkins or other Halloween candy)
- White chocolate chips
- Vegetable oil
How to make this Halloween Chex Mix recipe:
- In a VERY large bowl combine the first 6 ingredients: pretzels, Honey Nut Cheerios, Corn Chex, peanuts (or mixed nuts), candy corn M&M’s, and candy corn.
- Set the dry ingredients aside.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, heat white chips and oil on high for 60 seconds (you could also melt chocolate and oil in a double boiler pan).
- Stir and microwave for another 30 seconds and stir until completely melted and smooth (you may need to microwave for a couple more seconds).
- Pour melted white chocolate coating over cereal mix and stir until all the cereal is evenly covered with white chocolate.
- Spread cereal mix on a large baking sheet or two (I used cookie sheets) lined with wax or parchment paper.
- Let cool and then break apart into chunks.
- Store in an airtight container. This would be a great dessert to make ahead of time. It stays good for quite some time.
How to melt chocolate in the microwave:
Melting chocolate can be difficult. When melting it, there are a few things to know so you don’t ruin it, or damage it in any way.
- Don’t add moisture. Make sure your bowl and spoon are free of moisture or water droplets. Make sure there is no water from the washer, left behind. This will ruin the texture of the chocolate.
- Evenly sized chocolate pieces. Your chocolate will cook evenly if it is in smaller equal pieces. If you are using a bark, some chocolate will melt faster than other areas. This could cause burned chocolate particles which could effect all of the melted chocolate. We recommend using chocolate chips, or chopping up chocolate bark into bits.
- Mix frequently. Don’t microwave the chocolate all at once. Microwave it in 20-30 second increments, stirring it every time you remove it from the microwave. At first the chocolate will still be in its form, but with each time increment, it will soften and melt. Continue to stir.

Hahaha, my first thought on reading this recipe name was really not a good one! In the UK Monster Munch is a brand of heavily flavoured artificial savory snacks, like cheesy puffs - that would be so gross! Thankfully this looks a lot nicer!

gina says:
Love this! Do you have to add the oil to the Chocolate? If so what is it's purpose? Does the chocolate stay hard when cooled? Thanks!
-
Cyd says:
The chocolate is easier to stir in if you add just a little bit of oil. The chocolate will harden after it cools. You could leave it out but we have had better success with the oil. You can reduce the oil to 1 tablespoon and it should still work great.

Susan says:
I don't think Candy Corn M&M's are available this year, at least I can't find them. They're not even on Amazon. What would you suggest as a substitute?
-
Camille Beckstrand says:
I was looking for them at my grocery store too and couldn't find them anywhere! Any M&M's will work, but I especially like the peanut butter M&M's in this recipe. The flavor works with the salty/sweet combo that is going on. They do have a Halloween bag of peanut butter M&M's that I saw at the store, so the colors will at least look great! :)
-
Linda Anderson says:
I was wondering how much candy corn is used. I saw it listed above the recipe but not in the actual recipe. Thank you
-
Suzanne says:
How much candy corn do you use? Can you also add in those candy corn pumpkins?
-
Momma Cyd says:
You didn't scroll down quite far enough. It will give you the full recipe. It calls for 2 cups of candy corns. You can use the pumpkins, but they won't be spread out as much in the mix since they are bigger.
-
Momma Cyd says:
It's 2 cups of candy corn.
