Jalapeno Popper Grilled Cheese Sandwich Ingredients

  • 3 jalapeños
  • 8 slices white bread
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese (shredded)

Jalapeno Popper Grilled Cheese Sandwich Instructions

Turn the broiler on the oven to high. Place the jalapeños under the broiler and cook for 4-5 minutes per side (or until the skin begins to bubble on all sides).

In the mean time, butter each slice ofbread.Flip the bread over and spread the cream cheese on the other side.

Sprinkle each slice with cheddar cheese.

Once the jalapeños are roasted, remove them from the oven and place in a plastic bag. Close and set aside for 5-10 minutes. Remove the jalapeños from the bag and peel the skin from the peppers.

Slice the stem off each jalapeño, then slice and de-seed each pepper.

Place the sliced jalapeños on top of the cheddar cheese.

Close the sandwiches and place on a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.

Cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until golden brown.

Use a football cookie cutter to cut the sandwich. Use a knife to cut around the cookie cutter and remove the crusts.

Fill a squeeze bottle (or the sweet pastry writing pin you see below!) with blue cheese or ranch dressing to draw your “football laces” on the sandwich.

And voila, the almighty awesomeness of a grilled cheese sandwich is “football-ized”!

FAQs

Is mayo the secret to grilled cheese? ›

It's a reciprocal relationship. If you undercook the bread, the sandwich is soggy and the cheese might not melt properly. If you overdo it, then all you taste is char. That's why the secret to perfect grilled cheese is mayonnaise.

How to make a grilled cheese like Gordon Ramsay? ›

Using a cast iron-pan, add a touch of olive oil and get pan hot over medium-high heat and add sandwich. After about 30-45 second push sandwich so it crisps and cheese melts. Flip after about 2 minutes, once slices are nice and crunchy. Keep flipping and pushing down until cheese is melted.

Should you butter both sides of a grilled cheese? ›

Butter bread – Slather both sides of each piece of bread with the butter (yes, all 4 sides!). Light toast – Heat a heavy-based skillet or frying pan over medium low heat (no oil or butter). Pile on cheese – Flip one slice of bread, then pile on the cheddar cheese followed by the mozzarella.

Do you toast both sides of bread for grilled cheese? ›

Toasting two sides of your chosen bread can help deliver perfectly melted cheese and a satisfyingly heated interior. To make sure your grilled cheese remains delicately browned and not burned, King Arthur Baking recommends using a clear lid to keep watch over your creation.

Do you grill a grilled cheese sandwich on high or low heat? ›

A skillet preheated to medium or medium-low is optimal (adjust yours accordingly). Start by placing one slice of buttered bread face down in the pan, top with shredded cheese. Add the second slice buttered side up. Cook 2-4 minutes per side until bread is golden brown and cheese is melted.

What can I add to my grilled cheese to make it better? ›

Tuck in a little sautéed spinach, caramelized onions, chopped steamed broccoli, roasted red peppers, or roasted tomatoes. Add fruit. For really gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, use a mix of Gruyere and brie cheese along with thinly sliced apples or a slather of fig jam. Pickles, please!

How to make grilled cheese Martha Stewart? ›

Divide cheese evenly on both slices. Top with remaining slices, buttered side up. Heat a large skillet over low heat until warm. Add sandwiches and cover; cook, turning once with a spatula, until the bread is golden-brown and the cheese has just melted, 5 to 8 minutes per side.

Is Miracle Whip a mayonnaise? ›

Mayonnaise is made of oil, eggs, and vinegar (or lemon juice). Miracle Whip has the same basic ingredients but with less oil, and the addition of water, sugar, and spices like mustard, paprika, and garlic. Even with these additions, Miracle Whip has almost half the calories of mayo and half the fat.

How do you amplify grilled cheese? ›

Crisp bacon, thinly sliced apple, caramelized onion, prosciutto, jam, roasted tomatoes, fresh herbs... there are tons of ingredients out there that can add sweet or salty (or both!) flavor to a grilled cheese sandwich.

How many times do you flip a grilled cheese? ›

Cook until crisp and deep golden brown, 5 to 10 minutes per side, flipping sandwiches back to first side to re-heat and crisp, about 15 seconds. Serve.

How to get the cheese to melt on the inside of a grilled cheese? ›

I add one piece of bread to the pan, wait until it's hot, flip it warm side up, and set the cheese on it (that helps it melt a little faster). Then I add the top piece of bread, and cook the outsides as usual.

Is it better to grill cheese with mayo or butter? ›

Finally, it's a matter of taste: Sometimes, butter's richness feels a little too heavy and can overpower the cheese. Mayonnaise's light, tangy flavor means your tastebuds can fully appreciate the flavors of your cheese and bread choices.

Is it healthier to use mayo instead of butter? ›

Mayonnaise does have lower levels of saturated fat, but the type of saturated fat found in butter may not be as unhealthy as we once thought.

Which is healthier butter or mayo? ›

Both butter and mayo are almost 100% fat, so both have about the same number of calories (around 100 per tablespoon). But mayonnaise is much lower in saturated fat, which may be better for your heart.

Why is mayonnaise better than butter? ›

Mayo contains less cholesterol than regular butter. There are 5 milligrams of cholesterol in 1 tablespoon of Hellman's regular mayo, 4 milligrams in 1 tablespoon of reduced fat olive oil mayo and no cholesterol in Kraft fat-free mayo.
